The Abstractor will be responsible for the following key duties which support deliverables across all therapeutic lines for the Real-World Data (RWD), DataFit team. This role will play an integral part in meeting and optimally exceeding client expectations which advance Ciox’s presence in the marketplace as an industry leader advancing real world evidence.



Clinical Data Abstraction:

  • Perform clinical data abstraction based upon project specific work
  • Validate abstracted clinical data in response to quality checks
  • Provide input and recommendations to improve the overall abstraction project (abstraction guidelines, educational resources, clinical insight, abstraction workflow suggestions, etc.)
  • Attend project meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Assist in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to test abstraction guidelines, workflows, education material, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of project requirements related to clinical data abstraction.
  • Maintain current clinical data abstraction skills.
  • Track completion of assigned work and report status, as needed 
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Protect the confidential nature of the clinical data accessed through employment with Ciox Health.
  • Support Ciox Health’s values (commitment to clients, integrity, learning environment, responsiveness, respect, etc.).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all homebased office clinical data / PHI containing copies and electronic files, ensuring active copy security during and outside of work hours.



Education & Qualifications:


BA/BS in nursing or other healthcare related field preferred.  Associates degree required.  Will consider completion of associate degree in cancer registry management (CRM) or cancer information management (CIM) from an NCRA-accredited program in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.

  • At least 1+ year demonstrated experience in performing clinical data abstraction (or similar role) is strongly preferred.
  • At least 3+ years in a clinical and/or healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
  • Oncology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine expert level knowledge strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in multiple clinical areas


Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrates direct or indirect knowledge of data abstraction, with ability to abstract clinical data from PDF records and EMR’s and/or medical platforms (such as EPIC, Cerner, Beacon, Varian, OncoEMR, AllScripts)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical record structure, format, and content
  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge of medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge in pharmacology and microbiology
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and organize tasks and competing priorities
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer fundamentals and applications; able to learn new computer applications (Electronic Capture Tools, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel)
  • Demonstrates strong analytic skills
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision
  • Demonstrates ability to handle and resolve issues / objections
  • Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively as a member of a professional team
  • Demonstrates being intrinsically motivated to learn independently and has a strong desire to consciously learn

To ensure the safety of patients and staff, many of our clients require post-offer health screenings and proof and/or completion of various vaccinations such as the flu shot, Tdap, COVID-19, etc.  Any requests to be exempted from these requirements will be reviewed by Ciox Human Resources and determined on a case-by-case basis.  Depending on the state in which you will be working, exemptions may be available on the basis of disability, medical contraindications to the vaccine or any of its components, pregnancy or pregnancy-related medical conditions, and/or religion.


For remote work, this position requires that you provide a high-speed internet connection, subject to applicable expense reimbursement requirements (if any), and a work environment free from distractions.

With very limited exceptions (medical conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs that prohibit you from getting the vaccine), one of the requirements for this job is that you be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
